For 12 years, Lebanon did not ratify a state budget, and politicians have never offered an adequate reason to explain why. To understand what went wrong, we need to understand the process. Who should be doing what, and when should they be doing it? What does it actually take to create and ratify a budget, according to Lebanon’s constitution and the Public Accounting Law?
Kataeb MP Fadi Haber on Saturday said that it is currently impossible for local political forces to agree on a national defensive strategy or to secure full sovereignty, noting that Lebanon's stability is pending a solution to regional conflicts. "Real stability will only be reached when when the Security Council Resolution 1701 is implemented and Lebanon is actually dissociated from external conflicts," he stressed.
