Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rahi Thursday reiterated the urgent need to approve an electoral law as soon as possible, saying that is unacceptable to reach the polls without having a new voting system in effect. “We must prove that Lebanon is really a democratic country,” Al-Rahi said following his meeting with President Michel Aoun in Baabda.
Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rahi on Sunday called on officials to ease the suffering of the Lebanese people, saying that no breakthrough will be achieved unless all politicians put their personal benefits aside. “We urge officials to exert utmost efforts to end the pain that people are going through due to poverty, unemployment as well as the deplorable living conditions they are experiencing,” al-Rahi said in his weekly sermon.
