Lebanon's Proportional Representation Law May Suit Politicians' Interest, But It May also Shoot Them in the Foot

This past weekend, a leading Christian politician, Gebran Bassil, visited the Chouf mountain region that has, for decades, been the electoral stronghold of Druze leader Walid Jumblatt. Mr Bassil was preparing for Lebanon’s parliamentary elections, scheduled to be held in May 2018, and his tour said something about the country’s new election law.

Haber: Endorsement of Taxes Is a Huge Mistake

MP Fady Haber said on Saturday that the US sanctions on Hezbollah will eventually affect the economic and banking sector in Lebanon, adding that all these threats and sanctions usher in a major crisis. In an interview on Future TV, Haber stressed that the only solution to alleviate the repercussions of the sanctions is to remain neutral, deploring that the Lebanese government is under Hezbollah’s control.
