Sayegh: People Must Continue to Press Anti-Corruption Actions

Kataeb’s Second Deputy-President Salim Sayegh Monday reiterated the party’s commitment to the salary scale, stressing that the tax hikes cannot be disregarded.

“People must continue to put pressure on the state so as to halt waste in public institutions,” Sayegh said following his meeting with Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rahi in Bkirki.

“The Patriarch is aware any taxes would start generating revenues after at least one year whereas stopping Customs tax evasion would give better results in a shorter period of time," he explained.

Sayegh also stated that the Patriarch is also aware that the taxes, if approved, will not cover the whole cost of the salary scale, warning that they will cause economic inflation and increase the public debt.
