Gemayel Slams Hezbollah's Border Tour as Sovereignty Breach

Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel deemed the media tour that Hezbollah organized Thursday along the southern border as a breach of Lebanon's sovereignty and an encroachment of the state's prestige, slamming the government's idleness and indifference towards such blatant acts.

Gemayel noted that Hezbollah's field tour goes against the UN Security Council Resolution 1701 which calls for a border zone free of armed militants, adding that it jeopardizes Lebanon's ties with the international community and is considered as a failure to abide by the country's commitments.

"A government that does not commit to the pledges made in its manifesto, notably in terms of respecting international resolutions and keeping up support for the UNIFIL, and shruggs off its duty to safeguard the country's sovereignty, cannot be entrusted with the protection of power rotation and democracy," he said.
