Machnouk Bans Demonstrations 'to Preserve Security and Civil Peace'

Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk on Sunday announced that demonstrations will be banned in the country in light of the recent developments, saying that all protest requests will be rejected in order to preserve security and civil peace.

Machnouk's decision was made in the wake of a demonstration that was set to be staged by Syrian nationals on Tuesday to protest against the Lebanese Army's recent raids in Arsal. On the other hand, the families of Lebanese martyr soldiers also called for a protest as a counter-action.

"The Army, which follows the instructions of the government, is a national institution that belongs to every Lebanese citizen and protects Lebanon as well as those living in it," Machnouk said via Twitter.
