Beirut Fashion Show Sparks Outrage with Syrian Army Salute

A fashion show held in Beirut earlier this week has sparked outrage as attendees were surprised to see the event being culminated with a salute to the Syrian army.

L.I.P.S. Management hosted the Designers & Brands Fashion Show which run over a three-day event featuring designers/brands from Lebanon, Paris, Turkey and Arab countries like UAE, Kuwait, Iraq, Tunisia, Syria and Saudi Arabia.

The event was concluded Wednesday at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beirut with the collection of Syrian designer Manal Ajaj who, at the end of her show, came out surrounded by models dressed in Syrian military uniforms in what she claimed to be a tribute for Damascus.

L.I.P.S. Management’s CEO Johnny Fadlallah stressed that the company doesn’t deal with politics and has no affiliations at all, saying that each designer is responsible for his/her show.

“Designer Manal Ajaj was so discreet about her fashion show that she had even closed the doors during the runway rehearsals,” he told the Kataeb website.

“Each designer is free to do what he/she wants; criticism or compliments are to be borne by the designer only," he said.

“As organizers, we have nothing to do with what the designer presents,” Fadlallah noted.
