Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni on Friday told President Michel Aoun that his government will organize a special conference in order to support the Lebanese Army, saying that Italy will carry out the needed contacts to ensure the conference as Italy believes in the Lebanese army’s ability to maintain stability.
By meeting Italian premier, President Aoun has concluded a three-day visit to Rome.
“Lebanon plays a key role in consolidating stability in the Middle East,” Gentiloni stressed, noting that Italy is seeking to strengthen that role by maintaining its contribution and presence in the UNIFIL force deployed in south Lebanon.
For his part, President Aoun thanked Italy for its firm commitment to support Lebanon in various fields, praising its willingess to enhance the capabilities of the Lebanese Army to carry out its national duties in the best way.
“The crisis that Lebanon witnessed lately has passed. We are focusing now on national unity as well as security and financial stability,” Aoun stressed.
