Report: Refugees Fearing Return Following Meeting with UNHCR Representatives

Lebanon has voiced reservation over the approach that the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is adopting to deal with the refugees return to Syria, the National News Agency reported on Wednesday.

UNHCR representatives have been meeting with Syrian refugees in Arsal, Flita and other villages to check whether they want to return back to their homeland.

However, NNA reported, the UNHCR representatives are asking questions that are believed to imply a message cautioning the refugees against returning home.

The refugees are reportedly asked if they are aware that Syria is still not under international auspices, that young men will have to serve in the army, that their houses might be no longer habitable, that it might take them a long time to find a job and that they will no longer receive any aids.
