"Hadestown", a play about a young couple’s dark trip to the Underworld, received 8 awards, including best musical, out of 14 nominations at Sunday’s Tony Awards, making it the biggest winner and the favorite of the 73rd annual event.
The musical is a contemporary approach on the underworld myth of Greek mythology of Orpheus and Euridyce. It started playing on Broadway in April following a remarkable 13-year journey.
"If Hadestown stands for anything, it is that change is possible. That in dark times, spring will come again," producer Mara Isaacs said as she received the award.
