Russian Communist Party Demands Ban of 'Chernobyl' TV Show

The Russian Communist Party has demanded the country’s Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media, also known as Roskomnadzor, to ban the HBO mini-series "Chernobyl".

The party also demanded that a criminal libel lawsuit be filed against the creators of the series.

“Firstly, Roskomnadzor should block access to the filthy series on all trackers, on all resources,” the head of the executive committee of the central committee of the party, Sergei Malinkovich, said.

“Secondly, criminal cases should be opened against the director, screenwriter and executive producer of the series under Article 129 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for public defamation,” he added.

Malinkovich stressed that in Chernobyl "the real tragedy has become the object of ideological manipulation by the HBO channel, saying that “the series about the dramatic events of April 1986 ... is an ideological tool designed to discredit and demonise the image of both the Soviet government and the Soviet people.”
