Egypt Demands Halt of Pharaoh Sculpture Auction

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry on Monday said it is trying to stop an auction of a 3,000-year-old stone sculpture of Tutankhamun at Christie’s in London, demanding the auction house to provide documents proving the artifact's ownership. Egypt has also asked the British authorities and the U.N. culture and education agency to halt the sale, said a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry.

2,500-Year-Old Mummy Uncovered in Egypt

A 2,500-year-old mummy belonging to an Egyptian high priest was unearthed at an ancient burial site in Egypt during the live broadcast of Discovery Channel’s Expedition Unknown. The find, carried out by Egyptologist Dr Zahi Hawass, was made at Al-Ghorifa in Middle Egypt, where a sealed sarcophagus was opened to unveil the mummy of a “Great of the Five Priest of Thoth” covered from top to bottom with gold banding and other artifacts.
