Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rahi on Sunday called on politicians to opt for repentance and reconciliation, deeming these two values as the fundamental factors to build a state of justice.
"Politics is not a means to reach leverage or to accumulate wealth at the expense of public welfare," the patriach said in his Sunday sermon.
“Political ethics are the gateway to fighting corruption," he stressed.
The Patriarch also said that reconciliation reinforces democracy which is the precondition for Lebanon’s existence and sustainability.
“When politicians reconcile with God, they will find solutions to their people’s problems,” he stated.
On the eve of President Michel Aoun's visit to Russia, the patriarch hoped that the latter would seek solutions to ensure the Syrian refugees' return to their homeland.
