Hankache Says Alleged Anti-Corruption Fight Is Spiteful

Kataeb MP Elias Hankache said that the anti-corruption fight would have yielded the much-aspired results had it been handled in a professional and systematic way, deeming the current campaign as a mere political spite.

"What we are witnessing today is nothing more than accusations and counter-accusations, thus rendering the purported anti-corruption campaign as a mere fight in which the ruling authority's protagonists are settling accounts with each other," Hankache told the Kuwaiti Al-Anbaa newspaper.

The lawmaker stressed that the fight against corruption requires the liberation of the judiciary from political influence so that it won't be used as a tool to favor one side over the other, and necessitates the activation and empowerment of audit bodies.

"The greatest sin that the political forces have committed was to form a national unity government that represents a miniature replica of the Parliament, thus dashing the concept of accountability," he said.
