Gemayel: Axing Superfluous Posts Is Key to Public Sector Reform

Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel on Wednesday criticized the reckless approach which the salary scale law was dealt with, lashing out at the government for failing to introduce reforms.

"Prior to the approval of the salary scale law, we demanded reforms that start by assessing the public sector's needs in order to determine exactly the vacancies," Gemayel said during the Parliament's legislative session.

“We demanded reforms in order to avoid granting a pay hike to the undeserving; instead of dealing positively with our request, more than 10,000 illegal hires were made in the public sector,” he added.

Gemayel stressed that real reform consists in removing superfluous and unnecessary jobs in the public sector, saying that all of the previous government's decisions, notably the salary scale law, were taken to ensure electoral gains.
