Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri on Wednesday called for holding Cabinet meetings without raising the Qabr Shmoun incident, which had led for a government-fallout for over a month.
“Any initiative needs consensus from all the concerned parties,” MP Ali Bazzi quoted Berri as saying during his weekly meeting with deputies in Ain Al-Tineh, stressing that an integral and complete mediation must be adopted.
He also said that Berri’s proposal for a mediation attempt between the Progressive Socialist Party and the Lebanese Democratic Party had a 90% accord from factions but he was challenged so he put it off.
“We are ready to bring about efforts to save the country but if any discord existed, none of the initiatives will work,” he pointed out.
“The political, security, and financial stability are mandatory to everyone, especially that the international institutions are regarding Lebanon with caution,” Bazzi quoted Berri as saying, conveying the Speaker’s utter refusal of anything that might segregate the Lebanese and tear up the country.
