Kataeb MP Elias Hankache on Tuesday confirmed the party supporters’ vast presence in the protests across the country, denying claims of their mere symbolic participation.
“For four years, we have been promoting the same demands that are being called for today on the streets. We stood in the face of extensive conflicts to prevent imposing additional levies, refused the adopted state budgets, and we never gave trust to the government,” Hankache told Asharq al-Awsat newspaper.
“We objected to the Presidential settlement; therefore, our supporters have taken to the streets in agreement with the protests’ course,” he said.
“It is not possible for any political party or figure to take advantage of or capitalize on what is happening to achieve personal interests,” he stated.
“The movement is secured as proven in the past days”
“We took the role of opposition since the beginning and paid the price, but we never tried to take control of the movement which belongs to the people,” Hankache indicated.
