Hankache Questions Scheduled Legislative Sessions Amid Popular Protests

Kataeb MP Elias Hankache on Tuesday raised questions about the Parliament’s plan to hold legislative sessions amid ongoing demonstrations.

“Moving forward with Parliamentary legislative sessions in parallel with an unremitting popular revolution is staggering,” Hankache told Asharq al-Awsat newspaper.

“The items listed on the session’s agenda do not meet people’s demands,” he stressed, asserting that voting on draft laws related to corruption, a general amnesty and pensions requires a thorough study.

“It is the judiciary’s responsibility to hasten trials, especially in the presence of innocent people under arrest, not to randomly absolve all prisoners, detainees and assailants from their crimes,” he warned of a general amnesty.
