The Lebanese Kataeb party on Friday warned of the security forces’ use of excessive force, addressing Jal el-Dib’s scuffle between protesters and the Army.
"The party warns of the Lebanese security forces’ excessive use of force as a method to terrorize and suppress peaceful protesters in a number of Lebanese areas,” read a statement issued following the weekly meeting of the Kataeb's politburo.
The politburo indicated that the military institution adopted a highly responsible attitude throughout the popular uprising which gained it the Lebanese people’s love and appreciation.
“The politburo yet questions the change of attitude in today’s dealing with protests. Why this cruelty in repressing some protesters who are trying to amplify their voice to an absent, inert, conceited and impotent authority that excels in wasting time and throwing responsibility among its components amid Lebanon’s worst economic and financial crisis,” the statement said.
The party wondered of the ulterior motives behind this duplicity as one party’s supporters are being indulged while employing an inflexible approach with peaceful free protesters.
The party warned of pursuing the same approach urged the Army Commander to probe and redress the gravity of these actions through accountability and holding accountable those individuals who offended the image of the military institution.
