Sayegh Says Coronavirus Must Be Combated Locally, Calls to Stop Throwing Responsibility on Others

Kataeb's Deputy-President Salim Sayegh on Saturday stressed that although Coronavirus is pandemic it must be combated locally, calling to stop throwing responsibility on others.

“Either there is a government and a ruling authority or there is not,” Sayegh said in an interview with Voice of Lebanon radio station.

“The Lebanese officials are dealing with the Coronavirus outbreak with arrogance as if there is plan and things are under control,” he stressed.

“They have showed us a lack of experience in dealing with the Coronavirus and because of their weak political will they didn’t take any decision regarding banning the flights from the affected countries namely Iran and Italy,” he added.

Sayegh announced that according to the Health Ministry the estimated number of Coronovirus cases in Lebanon could reach 5000 cases, stressing that the goal is not to cause panic among people, but figures must be revealed for the government to take actions and ease the pressure on the hospitals.

“It is known that the number of respiratory machines in the hospitals does not exceed the 450 devices which most of them are dedicated to other health conditions,” he said.

“A state of emergency must be declared in Lebanon as soon as possible meaning that a violation must be issued against whoever does not adhere to the domestic quarantine,” he added.

Sayegh praised the efforts of the Lebanese medical staff and all those who are working in fighting the coronavirus outbreak, saying that they deserve all the respect and appreciation.
