David Schenker indicated that he was frustrated with how slowly the US Treasury Department was working on the matter, saying that the COVID-19 pandemic was partly to blame for the delayed further action.
Lebanon should expect to be targeted by more US sanctions if it does not reign in Hezbollah’s activities and support for Syrian President Bashar Assad, US Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs David Schenker said Wednesday.
Speaking in a webinar organized by the think-tank Beirut Institute, Schenker was asked whether the US would impose additional sanctions against Lebanese officials. “There will be, and I hope they will be soon,” he replied.
