Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel on Monday called for an international probe committee to investigate in the massive Beirut explosion that devasted the once vibrant city, voicing his lack of trust in holding an internal investigation.
“The political system has fallen and what was known as the old Lebanon must be buried,” Gemayel said in an interview with Sky News Arabia.
Gemayel hoped for a new independent government to be formed, saying that such government will help the Lebanese rise again and obtain aid from the international community.
“Holding early parliamentary elections is also required so as to restore the decision-making power to the people,” he said.
“The Lebanese people must hold accountable all officials who have neglected Lebanon’s interests and dragged the country into the phase it is facing today,” he added.
The Kataeb leader voiced rejection against using the electoral law to prevent elections’ holding and to extend the mandate of the current Parliament and political class, saying that people want change whatever the electoral law will be.
