One Year on, Lebanon's Revolutionaries Look to the Future

And yet, exactly one year on, Lebanon remains stagnant – in fact, the only tangible change has been that of regression.

On the evening of Oct. 17, Lebanon erupted in an outpouring of collective rage unlike anything seen before, as longstanding anger over the country’s notoriously corrupt elite finally boiled over with the imposition of a new tax on calls made via the popular WhatsApp messaging app.

As thousands descended on the Beirut's historic Martyrs’ Square, chants rang out across the crowd – “the people want the fall of the regime," the swelling mass of faces cried, only their calls only interspersed by the sound of balaclava-clad young men excitedly weaving in-between them on motorcycles.
