Kataeb party's Deputy President Selim Sayegh on Wednesday affirmed that there is a systematic operation covered by those behind the Beirut port explosion, saying that that any failure to comply before the investigation is equal to obstructing the course of Justice.
“There are two targets: the first target is General Security Chief Abbas Ibrahim who needs an administrative permission from Caretaker Interior Minister Mohammad Fahmi to be represented for investigation, while the second target is the prosecution of lawmakers and the issue of lifting immunities of them,” Sayegh told Al-Hurra channel.
"We are still in the context of investigation and the trial has not yet begun. Thus, any failure to comply before the investigation is synonymous to obstructing the course of justice and the investigation," he said, adding that every person should come to the Judge's place and justify himself as well as refute the evidence presented by the judge regarding him.
“Judge Tarek Bitar summoned people, not as witnesses, but as defendants, and the Judge would never take such step if he was not morally immunized with evidence,” he noted.
Sayegh wondered how a single lawmaker is able to defend the non-lifting of immunity, while the Kataeb party and all its deputies agreed not to be a false witnesses as this Council protects the system.
“If they had morals, they would have brought themselves into investigation and put themselves at the disposal of Justice."
"There is a living people in the streets and there will be no retreat to protect the judiciary," he added.
