Las Vegas is now trading parking tickets for school donations after the city council approved a plan according to which people would make infraction payments with pencils, pens and papers for students.
According to the endorsed plan, which runs until mid-July, people can donate pencils, pens, erasers, dry erase markers, index cards, copy paper, paper towels, disinfecting wipes, rulers, scissors and sticky notes.
The donated materials must be equaling or greater than the value of the fine.
The supplies will be donated to Teachers' Exchange, a nonprofit associated with the Public Education Foundation.
The non-public safety violation "payments" must be made within 30 days.
