The White House announced on Friday that ISIS has lost all of its territory in Syria, as per assurances made by the Pentagon.
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said that acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan had briefed President Donald Trump as he was travelling to Florida on Air Force One.
"The territorial caliphate has been 100% eliminated in Syria," she said.
On Saturday, Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) declared victory in the last battle against ISIS in Baghouz, bringing an end to the so-called caliphate.
"Syrian Democratic Forces declare total elimination of so-called caliphate and 100% territorial defeat of ISIS. On this unique day, we commemorate thousands of martyrs whose efforts made the victory possible," SDF spokesman, Mustafa Bali, wrote on Twitter.
