Iran Appoints New Revolutionary Guards Chief

Head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps has been replaced by Brigadier General Hossein Salami without stating the reason behind the change, Iran’s state TV announced on Sunday.

“The Supreme Leader has appointed Salami as the new commander-in-chief of the Guards, who will replace Mohammad Ali Jafari,” the statement said.

Salami, born in 1960, served as deputy commander of the Guards for years and is known for his radical comments against Israel and the United States.
