Army Veterans Threaten 'Big Day' Plan if Parliamentary Committee Approves Contested Budget Articles

Retired army officers announced on Saturday full readiness for the "big day" during which they will be blocking all the roads leading to the Parliament next week as part of their anti-budget protest actions.

The veterans warned in a statement that their upcoming move will be "painful" as they seek to pressure the Parliament's Budget and Finance Committee to scrap all items that affect them from the 2019 draft budget.

“As the parliamentary committee is scheduled to hold a meeting at the beginning of next week to study the 2019 draft budget, notably the articles that affect our pensions, [...] the National Committee of Army Veterans calls on all the fellow retirees to remain prepared to implement the "big day" plan should the committee approve any articles that affect our rights," said a statement.

Veterans have been protesting against the government's austerity budget which includes items that cut their pensions and end-of-service benefits.
