The chief executive officer of media group beIN, Yousef al-Obaidly, has been charged with corruption over the bidding process for the 2019 track world championships in Qatar, The Associated Press reported citing a judicial official.
The anonymous official noted that al-Obaidly, who is also a board member of Paris Saint-Germain, was indicted on March 28.
In 2016, Le Monde newspaper got hold of documents unveiling two payments of $3.5 million in November received by Pamodzi Sports Marketing, a former IAAF official, from Oryx Qatar Sports Investments ahead of the vote for the 2017 track world championships.
Although Qatar lost to London, it was later awarded the 2019 worlds.
The 17th edition of the World Championships, organized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), is scheduled to be held between 27 September and 6 October 2019 in Doha.
