Putin Suspends Russia's Participation in Nuclear Arms Treaty

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday signed a decree suspending his participation in the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty one month after the United States had withdrawn from it, the Kremlin announced.

The decree puts Russia's obligations under the 1987 agreement on hold, stipulating that they will kept suspended until the U.S. ends its violations of the treaty or until it terminates.”

The U.S. had accused Russia of developing a missile that violates provisions of the treaty which bans the deployment of land-based cruise and ballistic missiles with a range between 500 and 5,500 kilometers.
