Parliament Speaker Says May's Same Brexit Deal Can No Longer Be Voted

Speaker of the British parliament's lower House of Commons, John Bercow, announced on Monday that the Brexit deal that was previously rejected by lawmakers could not be put again to the vote.

Bercow, therefore, has thwarted PM Theresa May's plan to propose her twice-rejected divorce deal again to the Parliament this week, before heading to an EU summit in Brussels on Thursday and Friday to seek the postponement of the UK's departure from the bloc until June 30.

"What the government cannot legitimately do is resubmit to the house the same proposition, or substantially the same proposition," he said, citing a precedent dating back to 1604.

Bercow said that the government must find a way to change the deal with the EU before it can be voted again by the Parliament.
