For some Lebanese, Trump is the preferred candidate because of his forthright approach toward Iran, and the subsequent ramifications for Lebanon’s Hezbollah party.
Washington may be over 9,000 km away, but that has not deterred the Lebanese from keeping a close eye on the 2020 US elections. Now that the race to be the next US president is in the home stretch, The Daily Star questioned young Lebanese on what having Donald Trump or Joe Biden in the White House might mean for Lebanon and the Middle East.
The problems currently facing Lebanon, including a financial crisis, an uprising, health pandemic and the destruction caused by the Aug. 4 blast at Beirut Port, have led to increased global interest in the country, from the US and elsewhere. America’s role as an international power-broker means the election results have the potential to determine the next period for Lebanon and the region.
